Abstract

The attenuation of second sound in rotating resonant cavities containing helium II has been measured in the temperature range 101>TλT>6×104 °K, and values of Hall and Vinen's parameter B have been calculated from these data. The results show that B is only slightly temperature dependent, in qualitative agreement with the predictions of Pellam, but in disagreement with the theories of Hall and Vinen and of Lifshitz and Pitaevskii.
