Abstract

A systematic study is made of various first-order approximations to the T matrix for a rearrangement collision. Detailed calculations are performed for the process of excitation of the 23P level of helium by electron impact. Comparison is drawn between the various theoretical cross sections obtained and the experimental data. The polarization of the emitted radiation is also studied.
