Abstract
A value for the nuclear quadrupole moment of the excited state of iron, , is obtained using published values for in the octahedral and tetrahedral sites in (YIG) and in , along with recent values for the atomic coordinates in these compounds. The value of is definitely positive and ≈+0.4× .
