Structure of the Neutron

Abstract
In an earlier paper, the contribution of the meson current to the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon was calculated by use of the dispersion relations for pion-nucleon scattering. Here the contribution of the nucleon current to the electromagnetic structure of the neutron is obtained analogously by use of the dispersion relations for neutron-proton scattering. Only the contribution from the one-pion and two-pion states of nucleon-nucleon scattering is considered. It is found that both states reduce the neutron-electron potential, i.e., leads to a smaller charge radius of the neutron. The contribution from the deuteron state is shown to be negligible. The resulting mean-square radii of the neutron, including the contributions of both meson and nucleon current, are for the charge distribution and for the magnetic moment distribution with .
