Abstract

The elastic constants of strontium titanate (SrTiO3) were measured by the compound resonator method. Oriented quartz cylinders were used as drivers to excite the sample cylinders. The measured values for the compliance constants are s1111=3.3×1013 cm2 dyne1, s1122=0.74×1013 cm2 dyne1, and 4s1212=8.4×1013 cm2 dyne1. The elastic behavior of SrTiO3 is found not to be entirely analogous to that of BaTiO3.
