Wave Mechanical Treatment of the Fermi Gas

Abstract
A wave mechanical treatment of a Fermi gas is described using a generalized Ritz method, which gives in a zero approximation the well-known energy terms of Thomas-Fermi, Weizäcker, and Gombás, and which can be refined to any desired degree.
