In Memory of Peter D. Adams

We are saddened by the passing on April 16 of our dear colleague Peter Adams, one of the founders of the Physical Review family of journals. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family. Peter joined the APS Editorial Office in 1969, while it was located at Brookhaven National Laboratory. He played a key role in the split of the single Physical Review into Physical Review A through D, and became in 1970 the first full-time Editor to lead Physical Review B, a position he held until 2012. During his 47 years at the APS, he also held appointments as Deputy Managing Editor and Deputy Editor in Chief of the journals. He was a pioneer in the move to digital composition and software databases for manuscripts and referees. The journals and current generations of editors and staff benefitted immensely from his leadership, mentoring, and editorial vision. We will miss him.
