Diversity Statement
Diversity and inclusion are essential for bringing new viewpoints and encouraging wide participation in scholarly journals. The APS Publications are committed to reflecting and championing the diversity of the research community and upholding the APS Core Value of Equity, Diversity and Respect. We recognize all aspects of diversity, including (but not limited to) gender, career stage, country of origin, language, sexual orientation, and religion. Our goal is to make sure our journals reflect the diverse makeup of the research community through:
- Our authors: We welcome submissions from all authors and strive to include diversity in authorship when inviting reviews and perspectives to our journals.
- Our referees: We cultivate a global referee pool to encourage perspectives from all parts of the world and across demographic groups.
- Our editors and Editorial Board Members: When hiring editors or recruiting Editorial Board Members, we ensure that our search involves a diverse pool of candidates.
- Our language and communications: We ask authors, referees, and editors to use factual, unbiased, and gender-neutral language in communications and papers and in promoting appropriate use of chosen pronouns.
- Our conferences: When editors organize invited-speaker sessions at conferences, they invite speakers across demographic groups.
- Our partnerships: APS is a signatory of the Joint commitment for action on inclusion and diversity in publishing.
